“You could not dream of better”

Even before I arrived I was given a much appreciated experience of Carol’s care for her guests. Having to take a break from driving due to migraine, I sent a text concerning my new eta, and the kindness in the response actually took me by surprise! While staying at Beechwood in my all too short break (to go to Glyndebourne ), I really did forget I was a paying client and truly felt like a much cared for friend. Every little detail, from slippers, hair drier, superb choice of teas, little torch by the bed, super telly, and much more, had been thought of. Carol was there to welcome me at arrival and made me a pot of tea even though I had the most magnificent tea tray in my room. She was there again to welcome me back from the opera and sounded genuinely interested to hear how I had enjoyed it. My bed was something else! I have never, in all my travels, been in such a wonderfully comfortable, perfectly soft yet supporting, superb bed! It was amazing. The only thing that got me out was Ceri’s wonderful breakfast, and what a choice on the menu! Then there was my bathroom. Wow! This was palatial! It even had a panoramic view of the splendid grounds (garden is a mealy mouthed word for the land behind the house). Again, everything was there, beyond my expectations, and the towels.. Phew, you could suffocate in them! Best I’ve ever experienced. I can’t believe that even the showers in the Savoy could be better than the one I had at Beechwood.
Beechwood is ideally set to reach all the lovely places in Sussex. There is a good affordable restaurant in walking distance.
But the magic ingredient is the real care and genuine concern for her guests’ comfort and happiness that Carol and Ceri give. There is nothing intrusive or too concerned about it. It is something you can’t buy and cannot fake. Carol is far too good for the small minded backbiting and bug hunting of “4 in a Bed”. Her sincere concern to give the best possible care to everyone under her roof is what sets Carol in a league of her own. A stay at Beechwood is simply wonderful.

Room Tip: I think they are all good

Green Features: As far as I could see the B and B has an above average attitude to environmental matters.

We had an amazingly well equipped room – everything you could think of in the bedroom and bathroom. Very quiet and peaceful room (Ruby) and had a great nights sleep. Ceri and Carol were very friendly and gave us a great recommendation for dinner. ( The Cock )
Breakfast was superb with an amazing choice.

Lewes can be reached in 10 mins from Beechwood B and B

http://www.beechwoodbandb is just a 10 minute drive from this Historic Town Lewes.

Lewes is well known for its independent shops, they are spread out throughout the town from the flat up the hill to the crown court. People also visit Lewes for its array of Antique shops which are mainly at the bottom of the town. Lewes really does bring a distinct experience that can be combined with a visit to the castle, Anne Cleves House and the beautiful Lewes Priory. Coffee shops galore, quaint cafes and of course Bills.

A day in the life of running a B & B

Guests always say to me when they are leaving “We have had a fantastic stay with you, so you go and relax now we have all gone.”

Our morning starts at 6am with the breakfast preparation. Every day this includes setting up the buffet breakfast before we even think about the cooked ones to follow.

All of our guests choose from a comprehensive menu. We use local produce and are proud of our breakfasts. We cook, serve tea and coffee to our guests and at the same time we chat, we laugh and sometimes we even cry with them. Then we clear up the breakfast room and wash up.  Guests pay us – oh yes!!!!

We run upstairs to start stripping beds, emptying bins, washing cups and saucers and replenishing stock of teabags etc. We clean the bathrooms – my aim is to clean the shower like a mirror gleaming, then I’m happy. Hoover through, fresh towels ,dressing gowns and head downstairs to a mountain of washing.

Washing, ironing and theres no time for coffee. Then the phone goes (usually when I’m as far away from it as I could possibly be!) with people wanting to make reservations, checking availability for their stay to visit the South East or someone from India calling trying to sell me something (grrr!). The postman often knocks with deliveries of key bits for the B and B.We check the time – OMG! its gone mid day and we need to shower! It’ll need to be very quick showers before the next guests check in. We greet them, show them to their rooms and make tea and coffee for them in the garden and of course engage in conversation because we want every guest to feel at home. The time is marching on and we still haven’t finished the washing, not to mention started the ironing! Oh, oh, one of us is going to have to go to do the food shopping whilst the other waits for imminent guests. It wouldn’t do to run out of a particular cereal or milk or bread for breakfast! There are emails to check with frequency (it might be the National Lottery telling us that we’ve won the jackpot! Or another reservation to update our diary) and a blog to keep up to date with!   And so our daily cycle of events goes around and around and around (and we still need to do the ironing!)

We forgot about lunch – it’s another late one but still tastes good and it’s nice to sit quietly for a short while with a nice salad and a drink! Phew! Deep breath! Relax!

It’s time to take care of the large garden now! This must be kept in pristine condition as many of our guests enjoy either sitting, overlooking the garden or walking through it to study the range of plants! Our three dogs usually keep them company…….

Ah yes, our three beloved dogs – they love the guests (as long as they make a fuss of them!) and of course they want and need to be walked and fed…….

Its now dinner time for us and the chance to sit together and enjoy a peaceful few moments.

This is usually followed by planning the next day, checking peoples choices for breakfast and prep again. Carol can’t miss either Emmerdale or Coronation Street and who can begrudge her a few pleasures in life and the chance to RELAX.  Then our guests come home so we greet them all and find out how there evening has been.  Aah this could mean only one thing……… BED  and  zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

So you can see for yourselves that running a B&B (and trying to maintain a standard) is hard work  but very rewarding. We get to share a large part of our lives (even allowing for Ceri’s own work) and get to meet many interesting, enjoyable guests who are happy to see us in return and grateful for the chance of staying at Beechwood with us.

We at Beechwood B & B are just 25 min drive from Wilmington.

The Iconic Long Man in the South Downs at Wilmington dates back to the eighteenth century.

This Mysterious tall figure  is 235 feet tall set into the hills in Wilmington close to Eastbourne East Sussex. He was originally depicted in chalk, he is now formed of white breeze blocks.

There are some mazing walks in Wilmington , you can park across the road from this iconic figure and walk up to the man or you can walk or hike right over the South Downs.

There is also a pub in the Wilmington Village called The Giants Rest Pub. This pub offers local beers and great food using sussex produce.
