One of the major East Sussex summer festivals takes place every August Bank Holiday in the shape of the medieval re-enactment in the grounds of Herstmonceux Castle. The event runs throughout the weekend, allowing visitors to camp, glamp or even to stay at luxurious accommodation in the area such as Beechwood B&B for the whole weekend or to just visit for the day. The castle is a hive of excitement and perfectly mirrors the kind of enthusiasm the locals of that time would have shown, giving local traders the opportunity to show their wares and their skills.

The festival covers jousting events, battle re-enactments, stage shows featuring jesters, jugglers, minstrels playing authentic medieval instruments and dancers. There are also many activities to entertain and engage children of all ages. All sections of the castle grounds are filled with stalls for tarot readers, skilled woodworkers, clothing of the kind worn in medieval times and food of the period.

It’s an event that everyone should have on their bucket list as it’s a very exciting weekend for people off all ages to enjoy. Why not top it off and stay with us at Beechwood B&B in comfortable 5 star gold accommodation to allow yourselves to relax and re-energise yourselves before experiencing the hustle and bustle of medieval life?
